Have you ever wondered how many searches are done on Google annually which relates to Maldives or Maldives travel industry? We have done a research using Google keyword analysis tool and were quite surprised on what the outcome was.

Maldives as a search term

Every year 1,500,000 or 1.5 Million searches are done on Google by using the keyword ‘Maldives’. Websites competing for this keyword will have to pay an average of US$1.71 per click. Currently Maldives page on Wikipedia is the number one result and official tourism website of Maldives is the runner-up. As some refer to Maldives as ‘Maldive islands’ or simply Maldive, ‘Maldive’ was searched 301,000 times annually. Did you know that Spanish equivalent for Maldives is Maldivas? Because of this ‘Maldivas’ was searched 90,500 times on Google.

Tourism industry related searches

Tourism industry specific search which was done most was ‘hotels maldives’ and at a 12 month period 135,000 searches were done using the term ‘hotels maldives’. The cost per click of this search term is US$2.54. ‘Maldives hotel’, the singular form was searched 49,500 times and the cost is $1.97 per click.

In Maldives hotels are usually referred as resorts. ‘Maldives resort’ was searched 60,500 times. The most searched resort in Maldives is ‘Kurumba Maldives’, which is followed by ‘Kuredu Maldives’.

Most expensive keywords

In terms of cost per click, most expensive keyword related to Maldives is ‘resorts in the maldives’ which is worth US$4.90 per single click. ‘Luxury holidays maldives’ and ‘holiday in maldives’ are also in the same range.

How to take advantage of these search figures?

Our advice to tourism industry, specially travel agents is to take search engines as an agent that connects your company with potential holiday makers. The internet has evolved and websites are not online brochures anymore. Invest money in search engine optimisation and E-marketing campaigns to reach customers who are interested in what you offer.
